Larry Markiewicz

Guest Conductor

Lawrence C. Markiewicz was conductor of the critically acclaimed Imperial Brass for more than three seasons. He also presently holds the post of music director and artistic staff of the ISO Concert Orchestra in New York City. Always a visionary and builder of community ensembles, he is also the director emeritus of the Somerset Valley Orchestra and recently completed an eight year tenure as the artistic director of the Raritan Valley Symphonic Band.

Since the mid 1990s Mr. Markiewicz has been in demand as a guest conductor and clinician across the United States, England and Japan. Always active in education Mr. Markiewicz often works with public school ensembles and has been a frequent guest conductor for the NJYS and NJYO. Earlier in his career Mr. Markiewicz was a public school music teacher for twenty years, most notably bringing the Bridgewater-Raritan High School program to national prominence.

In May 2015, Mr. Markiewicz completed his graduate degree in the art of conducting at the John J. Cali School of Music. While in graduate school he enjoyed a two year partnership with Youth Education in the Arts located in Allentown, PA where he served as education director and adjudication liaison.

Of all the various conducting posts Mr. Markiewicz holds, he truly enjoys the challenge and excitement of brass band music best of all. The variety of styles, use of multiple soloists and excellent literature make it a constant thrill to be on the podium with the accomplished musicians that make a great ensemble such as Imperial Brass.
