Michael Spurr

Michael Spurr is the band’s solo tenor horn player and has been with Imperial Brass since 2015.

Mike studied Information Technology at Sheffield Hallam University in England, having moved to the USA in 1998. He currently manages an application support team for a financial technology company.

Mike started out on cornet playing for brass bands in the UK, but has also done some orchestral trumpet playing and wind band playing with various groups over the years – currently Imperial Brass is the only group he plays with.

Outside of Imperial Brass, Mike enjoys playing pool, and has also run several marathons. Mike has two children, and his activities gravitate to whatever they happen to be into, which vary – but recently have included fishing and video games.

Mike’s favorite brass band piece is: ‘The Essence of Time’ by Peter Graham.
