After Mark’s passing in the fall of 2017, his family recognized the deep impact he had made on so many brass players through his 26-year stewardship of Imperial Brass and expressed a desire to continue his legacy of bringing young people into brass banding – and so the Mark Freeh Memorial Scholarship was born. To date, the scholarship has been awarded to six recipients (listed below).
The scholarship seeks out promising young brass players who are invited to play with Imperial Brass, perform solos with the band, and collaborate with the wider brass band community through participation in all of the band’s events. Bringing young players into the brass band world is something that Mark Freeh did throughout his life and Imperial Brass is honored to continue that tradition with the next generation of brass musicians.
